Danny Baldwin was a character in Coronation Street from Ep 5770/5771/5772 - 31 May 2004 to Ep 6458 - 31 Dec 2006. He was the son of Mike Baldwin but for years Mike thought he was his nephew. Danny was like his father, quite ruthless. He was played by Bradley Walsh.

Biography

Backstory

Danny Baldwin was born on the 14th May 1960. He was the son of Mike Baldwin and Viv Baldwin, who was married to Harry Baldwin, Mike's brother. Danny was brought up as the son of Harry, although Harry himself knew that Danny wasn't his son but his nephew after discovering Mike's affair with Viv. In 1979 Danny married Carol Baldwin and they had a son Jamie Baldwin in 1980. Danny and Carol later split and he married Francesca "Frankie" Baldwin and they had a son Warren Baldwin in 1986.

2004-2006

Dishy Danny arrived in Weatherfield in May 2004 to help his dad Mike Baldwin with his factory Underworld. Danny was quite friendly with the staff at first but soon started showing his true colours and starting being unpleasent to them. He did hire Sean Tully of which Mike disapproved but Danny relented. Danny's wife Frankie turned up and Danny's 2 sons Jamie and Warren also arrived.

Trivia

• The character was originally going to be called Vic Baldwin, but Bradley Walsh asked if the writers could change the name to Danny Baldwin in honour to Walsh's late father Daniel Walsh.
• Bradley Walsh departed the role at the end of 2006 after two years on the show. He had made sure it was written into his contract that he wouldn't be killed off, in case he wanted to return one day. Although Walsh hasn't returned to the role he hasn't ruled out the possibility of returning, something which he spoke of in an interview in 2015.
